Well, it's half past six in the morning on a Bank Holiday Monday and I've already been awake three hours - yay.  The gym doesn't open for another half an hour, so I thought I'd catch up on some reviews.

I haven't actually started a new book since finishing Game of Thrones on the 13th August - instead, I've been catching up on my stock pile of old issues of Prospect and London Review of Books, both of which I'm enjoying so much, I'm considering re-subscribing, once I've made it up to date.

I haven't been listening to books on my ipod, either.  Instead, thanks to Prunsquallormd, I've been enjoying some roleplaying podcasts.  His post about audio recordings of Cthulhu games prompted me to check Penny Arcade for new podcasts, and I found a Dark Sun adventure I hadn't listened to before on their website.  It was full of the usual profanity and childish humour, but was highly entertaining all the same.  One character in particular was having a very bad day - he spent half the first fight immobilised and half unconscious, then was possessed by a demon spider and forced to throw himself into a nest of hatching eggs before being attacked by his own team-mate.  Pretty much par for the course for this group, and very funny.

Then I switched to Cthulhu, starting with the short but snappy Pale God adventure, which turned out to be much more civilised in terms of dialogue but rather less so in terms of many-legged scuttling white insect things that had a habit of eating people from the inside out.  The adventurers were somewhat hampered by one of the party insisting they should give up and go home at every turn, and they in fact failed to discover or rectify anything during the course of their investigations, but they did so in a very entertaining manner.

I started listening to the much longer Masks of Nyarlathotep, but had to give up part way through the first episode as there were just too many people all talking at once and the volume levels fluctuated too much to be comfortable listening to with headphones.  I'm currently downloading Tatters of the King, which has fewer players, in the hopes that it will be more user-friendly.

Now it's off to the gym - hurrah!
