High Deryni - audiobook review
May. 19th, 2011 09:22 amHigh Deryni, the conclusion of Katherine Kurtz's trilogy, proved very enjoyable. It kept me in suspense as to the fate of my favourite characters right up until the end, and the climax was wholly unexpected. I was anticipating having to sit through a lengthy battle, which in the end didn't occur, but the manner of the good guys' victory cast somewhat of a pall over the concluding paragraphs, adding an odd sombreness to proceedings. I was a little disappointed not to have an aftermath section, in which lovers were reunited, heirs came into their inheritance, and the gaining of peace was celebrated throughout the land, but I guess that would have diluted the double-edged nature of the victory, so I can forgive the lack of fan service.
Overall, this was a really good trilogy to listen to, and I look forward to more of Kurtz's books in the future.
