The Children's Hour review
Apr. 28th, 2011 11:41 amYesterday was another fantastic day, involving a fascinating trip to the V&A Museum, followed by a convivial and extremely yummy dinner at Prix Fixe on Dean Street, and concluding with a trip to the theatre during which I got to share space for a second time with Keira Knightley.
The Children's Hour was incredibly well acted all round - especially by Bryony Hannah as spoilt Mary (interestingly, Hannah and Knightley, playing a schoolgirl and teacher respectively are actually the same age in real life - 26). It was great seeing Keira Knightley on stage again, with the addition of Elizabeth Moss, an actress I've also always liked (though not actually found attractive).
Unfortunately, the whole thing was rather let down by the fact that the play really wasn't very good. The author can be forgiven contrived plot events to a certain extent, since the play was based on a true story, but it still could have been handled differently, without quite so much melodrama and perhaps a more meaningful conclusion.
Still, it's always fun to go to the theatre with lovely people, and it gave me an excuse to eat at Prix Fixe for the fourth time in six weeks - so no complaints here!
