Book three in the Sharon Shinn Samaria series, The Alleluia Files, follows on a hundred years from the previous book.  Now, there are heretics abroad on Samaria, who are spreading the theory that the god Jovah is actually a giant spaceship, orbiting the planet and responding to audio cues when the angels sing.  The storyline is less cohesive than the previous ones, and the romance aspect seems a little tagged on to me, but the continuing debate between religion and science picks up a notch, leading to exploration of extremism and corruption within the established "church".  The characters are vivid and engaging, as ever, and the implications of the plot for the society take on new importance, providing depth and interest.

Our main outing at the weekend was to an updated, stage version of "Yes, Prime Minister", showing at Chichester Festival Theatre.  It was well written, well acted, very funny, and wonderfully updated to contemporary themes.  The fact that we were late (we thought it started at 2:30pm, but it actually started at 2pm) and had to sit right at the back for the first half didn't dent the overall enjoyment of all concerned.  Excellent play.
