My soon-to-be-departing-to-Canada work colleague recommended a book to me a few weeks ago, and I started reading it last weekend.

I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb is quite a brick (900 pages) and not in the least the kind of book I normally go for, but I got through it in six days and came away thinking it was extremely well written and very absorbing.  I wouldn't go so far as to call it enjoyable, since the subject matter (schizophrenia, abuse of various kinds, deaths of infants - and, particularly horrifying to me, amputation due to complications of diabetes) was pretty unpleasant.  However, I found the book immensely readable and very interesting, though I thought the ending was a bit too neat to be really believable.
