Seven Pounds review
Jan. 18th, 2009 09:00 pmI was mildly intrigued by what I knew about Seven Pounds, so it edged out the other films I didn't really want to see and became my viewing choice for this afternoon.
It was well put together, but left me unmoved. There wasn't anything I could point to as being wrong with it, per se, it just didn't really do anything for me. Not meaning to use a pun, it didn't have any heart to it, so while it was interesting to find out how all the pieces fit together, and the picture they formed in the end was reasonably satisfying, it elicited more of an, "Oh, okay," than a "Wow!"
Will Smith continued to impress in a role that required him to portray a great many emotions in an often quite subtle way, but there was something missing that failed to get me to invest in the character. Perhaps the only character I really felt for in the whole film was his long-time friend, whose inability to deal with the situation he found himself in was very effective.
Not one I'd necessarily recommend, even though I couldn't describe it as a bad film.
