The third in the Eve Dallas series by J D Robb is considerably better than the other two.  The characters have all found their stride, and several of the peripheral ones get a lot more attention in this book, which is really good as they are all excellent additions to the cast.  I felt the plot in this one was a bit more polished and involving, and all the OTT romance stuff was pushed onto the backburner slightly (or I'm just getting better at ignoring it).  We also got interesting background information on the main pair of characters, which added a great deal to proceedings.  It's still pretty lowbrow, but also still highly entertaining.
