This morning's riding lesson wasn't helped by the fact that I arrived at the stables to discover the £30 that was in my hat when I left the flat was no longer there.  Michelle agreed to take the measly £7 I had left and let me come back to hand over the rest later, while I called Dave and dragged him out of bed to check the route from the front door to the car for fallen money.  (He apparently spent ten minutes scouring the carpark and failed to find the notes, whereas I nearly tripped over them on my way back up to the flat, but still - at least they got found!)

The lovely Madison was my assigned mount for the lesson, and the instructor was Rebecca, who seemed vaguely familiar but didn't recognise me.  She set us doing individual work for the first half, so I tried to wake Madison up by doing trot to halt and halt to trot transitions, changing direction a lot, and not letting her slow down when other horses got in our way.  I wore myself out, and didn't think I was getting anywhere, but then I managed to get a perfect canter transition out of her, so perhaps it worked after all.

Then, as a ride, we did a really interesting exercise where we all trotted round the track, switching down to walk for ten metre circles in the centre of each side of the school.  It took quite a lot of concentration to keep out of each other's way, and made the horses really listen as we kept changing pace and direction all the time.  Madison actually did it pretty well - she caught on quickly and anticipated the moves before long, which made things much easier - so, overall, it was a good lesson.
