The second play of the week was Liberty at the Globe.  I don't like the Globe - it's cold and uncomfortable and annoying to get home from.  The play wasn't bad - it followed the fortunes of six characters during the French Revolution, some trying to serve the Committee and some trying to avoid its notice.

The characters were interesting and well-drawn, the acting and staging were good, and it was well put together.

The issue I had with it was that the message seemed to be - the best way to survive is to capitulate to whatever is going on in society so that you can emerge unscathed from the other side and forget any of the unpleasantness happened.  I suppose it's true that people who are prepared to die for their principles are likely to be the first up against the wall when the revolution comes, but it seemed rather depressing to champion cowards and the weak-willed.
